We’ve arrived in what most people consider the optimal selling season: spring. However, while these months may be widely regarded as the best time to list, you may want to get an early start on your selling goals.

By listing now, you’ll have the chance to get a head start on your competition. After all, while the spring selling season brings an increased number of buyers, it also brings a massive influx of sellers.  And if your real estate goals include moving on to a new home (as is the case for most sellers), starting now will also make it easier to find the perfect property at a reasonable price.

Before you do so, however, there are a few steps you’ll need to take to prep your home for the market. Even if you aren’t thinking of selling just yet, it’s never too early to get your home in good shape.

Even if you aren’t thinking of selling just yet, it’s never too early to get your home in good shape.

There are three main steps you’ll need to take:

1. Declutter. This is the most important point on our list. Whether you’re selling or not, getting rid of unwanted or unused items is a surefire way to make your home look and feel much better.

2. Depersonalize. Before you put your property up for sale, make sure to remove any personal items that might prevent potential buyers from seeing your house as their future home. Gather up all your family photos, paint your walls a neutral color, and store away any belongings that might turn off an otherwise interested buyer.

3. Clean and make necessary repairs. Your home should be neat and tidy before buyers ever set foot inside. Make sure your carpets are clean, your walls are without scuff marks, and your “honey-do” list is all crossed off. And don’t forget to tackle any deferred maintenance tasks, like replacing your air filter or cleaning out your gutters.

By completing these simple tasks, your home will be in market-ready condition in no time.

Of course, every home is different. If you would like to meet for a consultation about your specific property, or if you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call or send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
