Things in Charlotte! Fun for Free! Charlotte has plenty of activities that don’t cost a dime. If you are looking for an outing that won’t put a dent in your pocketbook there is a lot to choose from! Take a look at the list below and plan your day with friends and family.
Things in Charlotte! Fun for Free!
U.S. National Whitewater Center – Here you can find some fun free things to do! There is trail access available for hikers, bikers, and runners. You can relax in a sunny spot by the rapids and watch the rafters pass by. This can be very entertaining! Thursdays through Saturdays during warmer months, River Jam brings great bands for free shows, and summer festivals offer free yoga, music, and some of Charlotte’s best fireworks.
Abari Game Bar – With free admission, you can find old school video games. Grab a controller of a Sega Genesis or hit the arcade or play classic pinball, there are plenty of options to keep you entertained. If the game cost a quarter back in the day, it still does here!
ImaginOn – This children’s library can make adults jealous. There are plenty of activity spaces that encourage kids of all ages to explore and to learn. Check out the studio for access to create videos, music, and costumes. Keep an eye on the event calendar for fun and free events!
Open Streets 704 – There are several Sundays each year for Open Streets 704. This is a route that extends several miles and winds through several neighborhoods. Closed to cars but opens up to bikes, scooters, and walkers. Enjoy family-friendly fun along the way, like live music, crafts, and carnival games, all to celebrate the heart-healthy benefits of staying on the move.
The Light Factory – Admire photography and film from emerging and established artists in Plaza Midwood. The exhibits and pieces throughout the gallery change often, introducing new works and rotating exhibits.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport Overlook – Find the grassy area and a few benches for the view that continues to bring people. Providing a front-row seat to watch airplanes take off and land on the Charlotte Douglas runways. It is extremely rare for an airport to offer public viewing areas, and this is a popular one for families, photographers and plane enthusiasts.
