Indian Trail, North Carolina
Located in the southern portion of the Piedmont region of North Carolina is Indian Trail. It is nestled on each side of the US 74 about 15 miles from Charlotte. Indian Trail received its name from the Native American path that wound through this area.
The town holds a history of traders traveling along the “Indian Trail”, that ran from Petersburg, Virginia to Waxhaw Indians, and gold mining. The trail was known for its larger farming community until 1874 when the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad was built stretching between Charlotte and Monroe. The railroad eventually brought prosperity to this area and in 1907 Indian Trail was incorporated as a town.
Indian Trail is a popular city growing everyday with more and more families moving into it. In 2009 Family Circle Magazine ranked Indian Trail, NC in the top 10 places to live in the United States.
The town has two high schools, Sun Valley High School and Porter Ridge High School, two middle schools, Sun Valley Middle School and Porter Ridge Middle School and five elementary schools, Indian Trail Elementary, Shiloh Elementary, Sardis Elementary, Porter Ridge Elementary and Sun Valley Elementary School.
Indian Trail offers old fashion community recreation for its residents including a Fourth of July annual parade which is one of the largest in the Charlotte metropolitan area and a Christmas parade. This area is also a golfer’s haven boasting three public golf courses and several more semi-private and private golf clubs.
